Ingredient Rundown

Ingredients To Make The Sweet And Spicy Jerk Dipping Sauce

Flavoring

Ketchup – provides the base and color for the sauce + add a little sweetness.

Jerk seasoning – brings Jamaican flavor and a spicy kick to the sauce, which can be adjusted to control the heat.

Liquid smoke or a piece of jerk meat adds a smoky flavor. Liquid smoke is a concentrated flavor that is made by capturing the smoke from burning wood and condensing it into a liquid form. It is often used to add a smoky flavor to dishes, particularly in situations where it is not practical to use actual wood smoke, such as when cooking indoors.

To use liquid smoke, simply add a small amount to the dish you are making, following the recipe’s instructions. It is very potent, so a little goes a long way. You can also adjust the amount to your personal taste preferences. Just be sure to store the bottle tightly sealed in a cool, dry place, as the flavor can evaporate over time if it is left open.

Pink Himalayan salt– You can also use your salt of choice. The salt rounds out the other flavors – you can add more or less base on taste.

Salt helps to round out the other flavors.

Liquid Base

Water or chicken stock is used to dilute the thick consistency of the ketchup, with the chicken stock also adding additional flavor.

Sweetner

Brown or granulated sugar adds sweetness to the sauce, which can be adjusted to taste.

Got Leftovers?

How To Store Leftover Jerk Dipping Sauce?

To store leftover jerk dipping sauce in the fridge, first, let it cool to room temperature. Then, transfer the sauce to an airtight container, such as a jar or Tupperware. Make sure to leave some headspace in the container to allow for expansion as the sauce cools. Tightly seal the container and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week.

If you have a large batch of sauce that you won’t be able to use within a week, you can also freeze it for longer storage. To freeze the sauce, transfer it to a sealable freezer bag or container, leaving some headspace for expansion. Squeeze out as much air as possible before sealing the bag or container. The sauce can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to use it, thaw the sauce in the refrigerator or in a bowl of warm water. Stir well before serving.

Need To Reheat?

How To Reheat Leftover Jerk Sauce?

To reheat leftover jerk dipping sauce on the stovetop, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the sauce from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature.
  2. Pour the sauce into a small saucepan.
  3. Heat the sauce over medium-low heat, occasionally stirring, until it is heated through.
  4. If the sauce has become too thick, you can thin it out by adding a small amount of water or chicken broth, stirring well to combine.
  5. Once the sauce is heated to your desired temperature, remove it from the heat and serve.

Alternatively, you can also microwave the sauce in a microwave-safe container, stirring every 30 seconds until it is heated through. Just be sure to use a low heat setting and keep an eye on the sauce to prevent it from splattering or boiling over.
